• CIS101 Survey of Computing
  Required course for all attendees. This course covers history of computers, 20th century PCs, and an introduction to the computer systems on board Galaxy Class Starships.
  This course consists of selected readings in the texts, and an exam. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay, and will be based on the assigned readings. Upon completion of this course, a Certificate in Survey of Computing will be issued, and the student will be considered accepted into the program.
  Recommended Texts:
  • "20th Century Computers and How They Worked", Jennifer Flynn, Alpha Books, 1991, Introduction, and chapters 1 and 2.
  • "The Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual", Okuda and Sternbach, Pocket Books, 1991, chapter 4.0.
  Note: Other texts on Computer History may be used in place of '20th Century Computers' to answer the historical questions. The Technical Manual, chapter 4.0, covers the Galaxy Class Starship Computer system, and is duplicated in the Appendix to '20th Century Computers'. '20th Century Computers' will be used in other courses being developed.

• CIS200 TOS Episodes
  This course covers all the Original Series episodes, as well as the six movies.
  The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • The Original Series episodes and movies, or the equivalent paperback novelizations. When answering test questions, source should be stated, since some differences exist.

• CIS210 TOS Novels
  This course covers all TOS novels. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • TOS novels. Note: each question will reference the specific novel it came from.

• CIS300 TNG Episodes
  This course covers all The Next Generation Episodes, as well as the Generations movie. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • The Next Generation episodes and movie. A possible alternate source is the ST:TNG magazines from Starlog Press.

• CIS310 TNG Novels
  This course covers all TNG novels. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • TNG novels. Note: each question will reference the specific novel it came from.

• CIS400 DS9/Voyager Episodes
  This course covers all Deep Space 9/Voyager episodes. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • Deep Space 9/Voyager episodes. A possible alternate source is the DS9/Voyager magazines from Starlog Press.

• CIS410 DS9/Voyager Novels
  This course covers all DS9/Voyager novels. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • DS9/Voyager novels. Note: each question will reference the specific novel it came from.

• CIS420 DS9 Computer Systems/Defiant and Runabout systems
  This course covers the computer systems on Deep Space 9 and the USS Defiant, and Danube Class Runabouts. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay.
  Recommended Texts:
  • "The Deep Space Nine Technical Manual" by Zimmerman, Sternbach, and Drexler.

• CIS500 Directed Independent Study
  This course covers a wide variety of specialized texts, such as the Jackill's Starfleet Reference Manuals, The Chronology of Star Trek, The Star Trek Encyclopedia, and others. This is a required course for the Doctoral Program, and is to be arranged with the instructor. The exam will be multiple choice/short essay, and will be tailored to the specific text or texts as arranged between student and instructor.
  Recommended Texts:
  • To be arranged with Instructor, by the Doctoral Candidate.
